Testing Windpost
Thank you for helping. This page has the app, what we would like you to try, and what you agree to by testing it.
Get the app
On iPhone, TestFlight installs first, then Windpost from inside it.
What to try, in order
You need one other person, or two phones. Each step takes a minute.
1. Add each other
One of you taps Add a contact and sends the code or link; the other opens it. Name the contact whatever you like — the name stays on your phone.
2. Words
Send a few lines each way. They stay in the conversation on both phones, with ticks for delivered and read. Hold a message to react to it or delete it for everyone, and slide one to reply. Then try Disappearing messages in the conversation's ⋮ menu.
3. Photographs and documents
These need permission first: in the conversation's menu, open the contact's settings and allow pages from the other person. Send a photograph, then a PDF of a few pages. Send one photograph with View once switched on.
4. Keeping a copy
When sending, Let … keep a copy is on unless you switch it off. For a document, try Send the original file too, which hands over the PDF itself. The other person sees a Save button, and the file lands in Downloads or Files on that phone.
5. Voice and video
Use the microphone button to record a voice message. Pick a short video from your library; it is made smaller before it is sent. Watch it twice.
6. Calls
Call each other from the top of the conversation. Try with earphones in, try the loudspeaker button, and let one call ring out: it should appear as a missed call on the contact's row. In Settings → Calls, Ring my phone makes a call ring even when the app is shut.
7. Tell us
What confused you, what broke, what you wished it did. Screenshots are welcome: send them with a few words about what you saw — to support@crowner.ca, or in TestFlight's feedback.
What testers agree to
- Adults only. You confirm you are 18 or older. Do not invite anyone younger.
- This is a test. The service may stop, reset, or delete everything at any time without notice. Do not use it for anything you cannot afford to lose or to have interrupted.
- Your history is on your phones. Messages, photographs and documents are kept on the phones in a conversation, sealed, and on our relay only until they are delivered. A recovery backup, if you make one, is sealed so that we cannot open it. Keep an export of anything you cannot afford to lose.
- What you send can be kept. Screenshots are allowed, and the person you send a photograph or a document to can save it. Send something view once when it should be seen only once.
- Be decent. No harassment, no threats, no unlawful material. Anyone you send a message to can report it to us, and that is the one time we will see a message. We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities.
- Tell us what breaks. abuse@windpost.app for anything about another person, support@crowner.ca for everything else.
- No promises yet. The security properties are being tested, which is why you are here. Do not rely on Windpost for anything where a failure would harm you or someone else.
